International Delegations and Secondments

VAGO welcomes international engagement opportunities, to help other offices build capacity and for our own learning and development.

Criteria for considering applications

As we are a small office with limited resources, we need to prioritise requests in line with the public interest and our audit mandate. All requests undergo consideration based on the set of criteria outlined below.

Delegations and visitor groups

  • The visiting delegation has a public sector auditing role or parliamentary function.
  • The delegates’ information needs are within VAGO’s area of expertise.
  • The delegation is in Melbourne for educational (not tourism) purposes.
  • The visit is being sponsored or organised by an Australian or State jurisdiction government or Parliament, or Victorian government agency or equivalent.
  • Adequate notice is provided to the office of the proposed visit. Ideally a minimum of three weeks’ notice is required.
  • VAGO has the resources to be able to host the delegation on the proposed dates.

A request for a visiting delegation should also include the following details:

  • If the home organisation is a member of AusAID or PASAI.
  • The number of proposed visitors.
  • The names and titles of the visitors.
  • Whether the delegation will have an interpreter.

Secondments and internships

  • VAGO has the right resources available to host the secondment/internship.
  • The applicant’s training and information needs are within VAGO’s area of expertise.
  • VAGO receives at least eight weeks’ notice of the proposed visit.
  • The visit is sponsored or organised by an Australian or State jurisdiction government or Parliament, or Victorian government agency.

A request for a secondment or internship should also include the following details:

  • Information about the applicant’s title, position and qualifications.
  • If the applicants salary, travel and accommodation costs will be met by the home organisation or sponsoring body.
  • If the home organisation is a member of AusAID or PASAI.
  • The anticipated duration of the secondment/internship, including proposed dates.
  • Visa documentation if a visa has already been obtained, or the proposed visa details.
