Good records management is the foundation of government
accountability and Victoria’s Public Records Act 1973
requires that public records are managed in compliance with
Victoria’s record management standards.
In this audit, we examined whether:
- selected agencies manage public records according to
- the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) is effectively
assisting agencies to do this
- the Department of Premier and Cabinet is supporting PROV to
effectively oversee agency records management.
We looked at whether the records management practices of the
Department of Education and Training and the Department of Health
and Human Services comply with the Act’s records management
