Integrated education for children with disabilities May 1992

Tabled: 1 May 1992

Overview

As part of the realisation of human rights in the area of the education of children with disabilities, the Government's policy seeks to ensure that children's rights to equity of participation in educational services are upheld. To achieve this objective, an Integration Program was introduced during 1984. The Program provides for the integration of children with disabilities into the regular school system. This Program does not in itself take up a significant amount of resources when compared with the total amount of resources provided for education generally in Victoria. However, in view of its importance in the Government's Social Justice Strategy, and following a suggestion by the Department of School Education that the Integration Program be the subject of a performance audit, the Office of the Auditor-General undertook this review.
