Overview

The audit assessed: whether Department of Human Services (DHS) is implementing appropriate actions to improve nurse work force planning processes; the effectiveness and efficiency of public hospital nurse work force planning and management at the local level; the effectiveness and efficiency of initiatives to encourage appropriate recruitment and retention of nurses; and effectiveness and efficiency of linkages between DHS, hospitals and nurse education providers in relation to work force planning. This audit focused on acute public hospitals as they are the major providers of health services in Victoria.
