Public Hospitals: Interim Results of the 2009–10 Audits

Tabled: 1 September 2010

Overview

This report informs Parliament of our findings about the effectiveness of internal controls arising from our interim financial audit of public hospitals. The report recommends that public hospitals assess their policies and procedures against the commonly identified control weaknesses, comprehensive leave and creditor management policies should be developed, and that the monitoring of leave trends and balances should be improved.

The report also recommends that the Department of Health should expedite the inconsistency between their service arrangements with public hospitals and the creditor payment terms required under the government’s fair payment policy.
