Overview

In 1982–83 the most significant developments affecting the Auditor-General's Office operations were: the tabling in Parliament of the report of the Economic and Budget Review Committee on 'Improving Government Management and Accountability: A Report to Parliament on a Review of The Audit Act 1958'; the progressive implementation of a comprehensive auditing approach, which extends financial auditing into value for money issues; the appointment of private practitioners as agents to conduct the audit of some water authorities; and the implementation of a revised management structure, emphasising a corporate management approach.
