Coordinating services and initiatives for Aboriginal People

Proportionally, Victoria’s Indigenous population is small compared with that of other Australian states and territories, representing 0.6 per cent of the population. Despite Victoria’s historically high levels of prosperity and government spending, outcomes for Indigenous Victorians remain poor in areas, including life expectancy, employment, and education.

This audit examined the administrative arrangements for Indigenous affairs from 2001 when the Victorian Government first sought to establish ‘joined-up’ arrangements. The audit assessed how well four departments coordinated services and initiatives for Aboriginal people in Victoria.
