Tabled: 2 December 1997

Overview

In the primary and secondary education sector, the Schools of the Future Accountability Framework is the mechanism put in place by the Department of Education to both enhance the accountability of schools and continuously improve their performance in raising standards of student learning. The Department of Education recognised the need to put an accountability mechanism in place to complement the devolution of responsibility for school management from the centralised control of the Department to the local school community occurring under the Schools of the Future program. The Accountability Framework represents an integrated planning, development and reporting mechanism. The introduction of the Framework constitutes a significant advancement in terms of measuring school performance.
