5 Financial sustainability

At a glance

Background

To be financially sustainable, entities need to be able to meet current and future expenditure as it falls due. They also need to absorb foreseeable changes and risks, and adapt their revenue and expenditure policies to address changes in their operating environment. This Part provides an insight into the financial sustainability of technical and further education (TAFE) institutes based on an analysis of the trends in their key financial indicators over the past five years.

Promoting better health through healthy eating and physical activity

Body
Over the last 30 years, lifestyle changes in exercise and eating habits have led to more Victorians becoming overweight or obese and increasing numbers of people at risk or suffering from chronic disease conditions. There is an increasing body of evidence to show the effectiveness of health promotion to reduce the onset of chronic disease and promote good health and wellbeing. This audit examined whether the Victorian Government's investment in health promotion had encouraged people to adopt healthier eating habits, to exercise more regularly and to achieve healthy weight levels.

Giving Victorian children the best start in life

Body
This report examined whether the municipal early years plans, Best Start and children's centres initiatives implemented by the Department of Human Services were leading to an increased number of children using maternal and child health centres, and attending kindergarten.
